The Science

What is Methylene Blue?

Short answer: it's one of the oldest, most-studied compounds in medicine — used in human care for over a hundred years. At the cellular level it acts as an antioxidant and helps the mitochondria (the tiny engines inside your dog's cells) run more efficiently. Which is really just a scientific way of saying: it supports how cells make energy.

The honest version: the reason people are interested in methylene blue for animals comes down to three things — cellular energy, everyday antioxidant support, and the aging brain. Its safety profile in dogs at low doses is clean and well-documented, which is exactly why the amount per capsule is small.

What we're not going to do is tell you it's a miracle. The research is real and ongoing. The compound is real and well-characterized. What it does for your specific pet, on a specific day, is a conversation for you and your vet — not a sales pitch from us.

The Specs

Nothing hidden. Nothing fudged.

If you wouldn't accept vague answers from your vet, you shouldn't have to accept them from us. Here's exactly what's in the bottle — and the receipts to prove it.

Most supplement brands don't publish their lab results. We don't understand that. Every lot of Methylene Blue Capsules is independently tested — identity, purity, heavy metals, microbial. How It Works

A small thing your pet does every day.

No needles. No clinic visits. Just a capsule that fits into the routine you already have — simple daily support that feels easy, familiar, and low-stress for you and your pet.
1

You give it

1/2 to 2 capsules, sized to your dog's weight, once daily — whole in a treat, or opened and mixed into food.

2

It absorbs

Methylene blue is readily absorbed and circulates through the system — no special timing, no fuss.

3

It supports

At the cellular level, it's been studied for antioxidant activity and mitochondrial energy support. The quiet, background kind of support — not the overnight kind.

The Daily Amount

Small on purpose.
Sized to your dog.

Methylene blue is dosed by weight, and the amount is deliberately small. Start at the low end, give once daily with food, and don't go past the guide.

Once daily, with food

The guide uses ½ capsule (0.5 mg). Confirm the best way to divide the capsule with your veterinarian before use.

Start low

For ranges that include more than one amount, begin at the lower amount during the first week. For fixed ranges, follow the listed amount. Give once daily with food and do not go past the guide.

Before you begin

Always confirm the right amount with your veterinarian — especially if your dog is pregnant or nursing, has kidney or liver concerns, or takes any medication, particularly antidepressants or MAOIs.

Simple formula

What's Inside

01 Methylene Blue (USP) Pharmaceutical-grade methylene blue with 99%+ purity, formulated as the capsule’s only active ingredient.
1 mg per capsule
02 Microcrystalline Cellulose (filler) A plant-derived capsule filler used to help create consistent capsule volume and structure.
03 Vegetable Capsule (Hypromellose) A vegetarian capsule shell designed to delay release compared with a standard immediate-release capsule.
Three things. That's it. No artificial colors, no flavors that mask anything, no preservatives, no animal-derived shell. USP pharmaceutical-grade methylene blue, third-party tested every batch. We left out everything we couldn't justify keeping in.

Easy Going · How to give it

Will my dog actually take it?

Fair question. Some dogs swallow a capsule like a treat, while others need a little more convincing. The good news is there are a few simple ways to make it easier, from hiding it in a favourite snack to mixing it into a small amount of food and keeping the routine calm and consistent. Here’s what tends to work best:

How to give it

Four easy options

Choose the method that works best for your dog.

Whole, in a treat

For small dogs, Methylene Blue Drops make smaller amounts easier and more precise than splitting a capsule.

Opened, into food

Twist the capsule open and stir the contents into a small bite of wet food. Methylene blue is nearly tasteless, so most dogs never notice.

Always offer water after

Keep it a calm moment — same time, same spot, praise like you mean it.

About the blue

if you open a capsule, the powder is a deep blue and it stains (hands, counters, fabric). Methylene blue can also tint your dog's saliva, stool, or urine blue-green for a little while — harmless and expected. Handle over a plate, not the carpet.

Vet-first guidance

If your vet says no, please say no.

Paws & Peps is a supplement company. We're not a substitute for veterinary care, and we never want to be. Your vet has the full picture — your dog's history, their medication, their quirks. Methylene blue in particular can interact with certain drugs, so this conversation isn't a formality. We'd rather you start later with their blessing than sooner without it. Talk to them first. Always.

Frequently Asked

Questions about
Methylene Blue Capsules.

Straight answers for pet parents — from how to give capsules,
to testing, safety, and what to ask your vet.
Cats can't safely process methylene blue. It can cause Heinz body anemia, a serious red-blood-cell condition, in felines. This is a genuine species difference, not a marketing choice — so cats come off the label entirely. If you have a cat, ask your vet about cat-safe options.
You can twist the capsule open and split the powder into food — but honestly, for dogs under 20lbs our Methylene Blue Drops make small, precise doses much easier. Same compound, marked dropper.
A little, and it's harmless. Methylene blue can temporarily tint saliva, stool, or urine blue-green. The powder inside the capsule is deep blue and stains, so open it over a plate.
Usually fine alongside everyday supplements — but methylene blue can interact with serotonergic and MAOI medications, so if your dog is on any prescription, check with your vet before starting.
By weight — the guide is above (½ to 2 capsules daily depending on size). Unlike our peptide capsules, methylene blue has an established weight-based amount, so we print the guide. That said, your vet still sets the final call for your specific dog. Start at the low end.
60 capsules. Anywhere from about a month (a large dog at 2 capsules a day) to four months (a small dog at half a capsule). Size decides it.
No — and we'll be upfront about that. It's sold as a supplement and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. If a brand tells you otherwise, walk away.
Every batch is verified by an independent third-party lab using HPLC. The Certificate of Analysis is available for every lot — scan the QR on the bottle or download it from the testing section above.
